Why Everyone Needs a Medicare Broker

It is fair to ask—why do I need a broker? I’d rather do my own research and call the insurance company myself.

It is a fair question to ask, especially for those who are tech savy and able to navigate website like Medicare.gov and its useful comparison tool. When you call an insurance company’s 800 number and enroll in their plan over the phone, odds are that agent is not in New York, and if you call them back in a few months, maybe they left their position. Although telesales agents are knowadgable about Medicare, and have a general grasps of the plans on a national scale, it is always better to have someone local. In New York, I know all of the insurance companies and their different options, I know the major provider networks, I know the state programs that many beneficiaries may get extra help from. In addition to that, my members can call my any time of year, with questions, comments, concerns, or problems and I have a direct line with the insurance company to provide a solution.

In addition insurance brokers, like myself, are contracted with multiple insurance companies, and licensed to sell policies from any insurance carrier they have a contract with, whereas an agent is limited to just the company they work for. Although the corporate life had its perks, the value that I am now able to offer my clients has increased exponentially.
