Medicare Advantage (Part C) Plans

Medicare Advantage plans (also known as Part C Plans) combine Parts A, B, and D (hospital, medical, and prescription) into one plan. In terms of simple math, Part C = Parts A + B + D. Working with your agent, explore options from all of the Advantage plans in the county where you live to see which plan would be best for you.

Compare benefits like:

  • Monthly plan premiums

  • Inpatient hospital copays

  • Specialist copays

  • Network of doctors

  • Social Security monthly rebates

  • Fitness memberships

  • Dental/vision/hearing benefits

Usually, beneficiaries are automatically enrolled in Part A, but our brokerage can assist you in manually applying for Part B.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans

Medicare Supplement plans cover the 20% of healthcare costs that Original Medicare does not cover. (Original Medicare is Parts A and B directly from the federal government covering 80% of hospital and medical costs.) These plans have a higher monthly premium, but little to no copays for medical services. Original Medicare remains your primary insurance, so you visit any provider in the country that accepts Original Medicare—no network restrictions are applicable.

There are 10 supplement plans: A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. These plans are regulated by the federal government—so a Plan N underwritten by one insurance company is the exact same product as a Plan N from another insurance company. So, the only variable among carriers is the monthly premium; your agent will research and present to you a schedule of premiums for your consideration.

Application for Medicare

Application for Medicaid

Medicaid paired with Medicare can offer more benefits. (Qualification based on income and financial resources.)

Perscription Drug (Part D) Plans

These plans are to be paired with Original Medicare (and a supplement, if you so choose) and cover prescription drugs. Different plans have different drug formularies, pharmacy networks, and monthly premiums, so a comparison is part of informed decision making.

Individual Dental/Vision/Hearing Plans

Original Medicare does not cover dental, vision, or hearing costs; Medicare Advantage plans often do; and Medicare Supplement plans often don’t.

If you choose a Medicare plan which does not have dental/vision/hearing benefits, it may be important to shop for a separate “individual plan” which provides these benefits. There are individual plan options that cover both preventative and comprehensive needs. You can choose a plan for either or both needs, and you can enroll and disenroll at any time.

Notably, because these individual plans are unrelated to Medicare, any person, even under the age of 65, is eligible.

MSP

Medicare Savings Program (also known as “Extra Help”) pays your Medicare premiums and drug copays. (Qualification solely based on income.)

EPIC (and other state programs)

The Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program pays drug copays and has certain additional benefits. (Qualification based on income and age.)
